Attorney Michael Hall joined Stackpole & French in April of 2021. Mike assists commercial clients with a focus in the energy industry. Additionally, he assists general business clients with commercial and corporate transactions, and commercial dispute resolution.

Mike has more than twenty years’ experience as an energy attorney, and was corporate counsel for two Fortune 500 utilities during the course of his career. He has represented regulated utilities before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and various state public utility commissions regarding transmission and distribution tariff compliance, ratemakings, financings, and M&A matters. He has also held administrative positions under several ISO-NE committees representing transmission owners across New England.

On the unregulated side of the industry, Mike has many years of experience representing competitive suppliers and independent power producers in the development of renewable and traditional generation resources including wind, solar, biomass and hydro generation. His experience includes tax equity transactions, project financing, M&A activity, energy trading and marketing including REC contracts, swaps and derivatives, PPA negotiation, EPC construction contracts, siting, and environmental permitting and compliance activity.

Mike is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and his admission to the Vermont Bar is pending.

Prior to Joining Stackpole & French, Mike held the role as corporate counsel for a number of large utilities including VELCO, Eversource (formerly Northeast Utilities), Progress Energy (Duke-Progress), and Capital Power Corporation. Mike graduated from Saint Mary’s College of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1995. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Vermont Law School in 1999 and also holds a Masters of Environmental Law from Vermont Law School, Cum Laude in 2001.

Mike, his wife, and three children enjoy weekend hikes in the high peaks of Vermont and New Hampshire, skiing, golf, hockey, baseball, soccer, and track.
