Attorney Clay Beaugard Thomas joined Stackpole & French Law Offices in September of 2022. Clay assists clients in various real estate matters including purchase, sale, and refinancing transactions as well as land use, development, and homeowners’ association projects. Clay also works in the firm’s utility department on issues relating to real estate and title insurance. He is based out of the firm’s Shelburne office, and works with clients, brokers, lenders, and attends closings throughout Vermont.

Prior to joining Stackpole & French, Clay worked as a law clerk for another Vermont law firm where he assisted clients in various real estate matters and developed a strong proficiency in title research. Clay also worked as a surveyor in Virginia prior to attending law school, and his knowledge and background in this area is valuable to the firm and our clients in dealing with various land use issues.

Clay is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he received Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Political Science and Southern Studies. He was also a member of the lacrosse team. After falling in love with Vermont during a visit, he later received his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 2022. While attending law school, Clay spent over a year working in the Veterans Legal Assistance Project helping underserved veterans obtain legal counsel.

Clay is a native of the Tidewater region of Virginia, raised on a working farm, and grew up in the Richmond area. When not in the office he is an avid skier and outdoorsman, a lifelong equestrian, as well as a sports fanatic.
